About the VSME framework

VSME is a voluntary sustainability reporting standard designed for non-listed SMEs. It forms part of the broader EU sustainability reporting architecture and provides a lighter reporting format than the ESRS standards.

In practice, the framework helps organisations present their sustainability information in a way that is structured, transparent and comparable.

Through VSME, companies can disclose information such as:

  • company structure and reporting scope
  • sustainability policies and practices
  • environmental indicators, including energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
  • workforce-related information
  • governance, ethics and compliance practices
